Mayor Steve Hutchison
Mayor Hutchison was born and raised in Nashville Tennessee. He studied criminal justice at Aquinas Junior College and was a police officer in Goodlettsville Tennessee for ten years. Upon leaving the police department he joined the Air Force and served 27 years, retiring in 2005 as a Master Sergeant in which his service included Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Operation Desert Storm.
He served on the Governor’s Drug Task Force in Nashville and worked with the Last Chance Boot Camp for juvenile offenders. In addition, his work included the Buddies of Nashville Tennessee program; a program that mentors young adolescents who live in a one parent household.
After moving to Georgia, he worked with Loomis Armored Car Company and the Henry County Sheriff’s Department. Mayor Hutchison retired from the Henry County Sheriff’s Department as a Detention Officer in 2016. He served on the Hampton City Council for five years before being elected as Mayor of Hampton. He has served six years as Mayor and has two years remaining in his second term.
Mayor Hutchison currently serves on the Atlanta Regional Commission representing the Mayors of Henry County. He has served on the Henry County Chamber Board of Directors for the past six years.
Mayor Hutchison was a graduate of the Regional Leadership Institute in 2018 and in addition he was chosen by his peers to serve on the Selection Board for the Atlanta Link.
Mayor Hutchison is a volunteer in many areas of the community and serves with others on the Hampton Main Street Board. He serves Veterans in the area by locating housing, food and personal needs. He is a member of American Legion Post 330 and helps distribute food to families through the Atlanta Area Food Bank. He is an active member of Hampton First Baptist Church and serves in various areas of the church work.
Mayor Hutchison works with the area schools on career day and often speaks to government classes educating them on local government practices. In addition, he participates in the reading program at area schools when called upon to read to various children’s classes.
He and his wife, Linda, have been married for seventeen years. She is a life-long resident of Henry County and a Certified Think Life Change Biblical Counselor. They pride themselves in being a close blended family and enjoy family time together. Mayor Hutchison has four children and his wife has two. Together they share nine grandchildren.
He enjoys gardening, canning, and, cooking. He and his wife enjoy weekend trips to historic towns, the mountains, and Hilton Head Island. Time spent with family and friends in their home for dinners, cookouts, and holidays is an additional all-time favorite. It is never unusual to see their home full of grandchildren, family and guests. There is always a pot of coffee available for guests wishing to drop in.
