Our aim is to provide quality customer service, ensure access to accurate and timely business license data, and ensure all businesses are compliant with the City of Hampton business regulations.
Specifically, the Department answers inquiries for and about existing businesses, assist applicants in obtaining the proper business license by providing accurate checklists that help the application process, and receives and processes business license applications and renewals.

How do I apply for a business license?
Business licenses can be received by submitting a filled Business License Review Form (above) in person to Community Development at City of Hampton City Hall. A fee, dependent on the size and scope of the business, will be due upon submittal.
The form will then be reviewed by Community Development staff and the applicant will be notified of approval and their next steps towards receiving a CO (Certificate of Occupancy) which will allow them to operate their business.
If you have any questions of the process, please feel free to reach out to Community Development staff.
